Editorial War: Russia vs USA

Below is my post on Russia's Pravada newspaper website. John McCain today responded with his own op-ed published by Pravada to Putin's op-ed from last week published by the New York Times. I felt the need to respond, because the world is watching.

Dear Pravada Newspaper,

I am a proud American and believe what McCain has written is true and am grateful he has responded to Putin's article in the New York Times. My father escaped Russian controlled East Germany in 1964 at the age of 20 and came to America for the dream. He came with nothing, no formal education, worked hard, joined the middle class, had 4 children and today is retired and lives a good life near the ocean. The American dream still exists today and I wish for Russians to also live the dream. There are millions of proud American's like me, but we are not blind. No government is perfect, America is not perfect. But our government is strong because we allow freedom of speech and dissent. It can withstand dissent and the day dissent and free speech is forbidden is the day America dies. Some people in this post say McCain is a hypocrite because America has a gap between rich and poor people. But let me remind you that most Americans are middle class and over 90% of our people are employed. Even the poor in American have a relatively good standard of living (by global standards) as evidenced by the fact that almost all of them can afford cell phones and cable TV. Our elections are just and it's middle America that voted Obama into power, not powerful lobbies or interest groups. It's the young people with their Facebook and Twitter that helped Obama win, not the rich and powerful. I did not vote for Obama, but I honor our electoral system and will wait patiently till 2016 when we can elect a new leader. All the citizens of the world are living today in uncertain times. I urge us all to pay attention and seek out the truth. The truth will set us free.
